Filmmaker Casey Neistat took it into his own hands to uncover the true usefulness of the Emergency Break on the subway.

If you’ve ever been for want of a book or an iPod on the subway – your eyes may have drifted to the little black plaques near the emergency break indicating that you should NOT pull that tempting red cord if there is a fire… a medical emergency… or the need for police.

Well, yeah, those are pretty much the circumstances one would think to pull the cord, so why is it there? To provide a false sense of security? Maybe, but there is actually a time when you should pull the cord…
