Weezy Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge
Grammy winning rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession…
According to the AP, Weezy is expected to be sentenced to one year in prison for the charge. Lil Wayne had previously pleaded not guilty in the case.
The charges stem from a police raid of the rapper’s tour bus in NYC back in 2007, when authorities allege they found a gun. Prosecutors said DNA that was found on the loaded gun connected it to Wayne. His defense lawyer said the gun wasn’t his, and that there were flaws in the way the evidence was tested as well as the circumstances that surround the search of the bus in the first place.
Back in July of ’07 NYPD officers pulled over Wayne’s tour bus in Columbus Circle because, they say, they had seen and smelled marijuana smoke coming out of the buses the door before it left a concert venue minutes earlier. Allegedly, as an officer approached the vehicle, the rapper (real name Wayne Carter) tossed away a Louis Vuitton bag containing a gun. Which makes sense, because everyone knows LV bags make dope gun holsters.
Sentencing in the case is set for February and the rapper is currently free on bail until then.
Oh, but Weezy’s relationship with the law doesn’t end here. The rapper is also scheduled for trial in Arizona on felony drug possession and even more weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, for now.
