Jay-Z Sits On Top of the MC Game

The annual Hip Hop tradition created by MTV that ranks the Top MC’s in Hip Hop was on display this past week – one by one each MC from the last spot at #10 up to #4 was released and this past Sunday, the top four were announced.
Check out the top names in the game below according to MTV brass and the online voting community…
#10) Raekwon
The veteran rapper from the legendary group the Wu-Tang Clan makes the list due to his highly regarded new album Only Built for Cuban Linx 2.
——————————-
#9) 50 Cent
The always controversial rapper makes the list, once again, because of his mastery of remaining relevant without releasing an album in over year. His website and mixtapes have kept him stuck in everyone’s hip hop talk.
——————————-
#8) Fabolous
“Fab” makes the list for the 1st time due to his hit album Loso’s Way bringing his career full circle. The lead single “Throw It In The Bag” has been a non stop hit, being played heavily on 92.3 NOW.
——————————-
#7) Young Jeezy
Jeezy makes the list again, this time for his hit song earlier in the year called “My President Is Black”. The song was a great success after the election of Barack Obama as our new President of the United States.
——————————-
#6) Gucci Mane
It is very surprising to see Gucci finally make the list especially since he has been known more for his legal troubles then his music but the Atlanta Emcee has delivered countless mixtapes and has collaborated with big name artists like Mario and Mariah Carey, introducing many new listeners to Gucci.
——————————-
#5) Rick Ross
“The Boss” Ricky Ross makes the list this year due to the success of his latest effort, Deeper Than Rap, which received high praise from many hip hop fans. His beef with 50 cent could have hurt his career, but Ross has shown the ability to expand by creating his own label and introducing his group Triple C’s.
——————————-
#4) Kanye West
The incident at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards could not keep Mr. West off the list as he has been an undeniable force on several songs he’s been featured on. His verses on tracks like Jay-Z’s “Run This Town” and Drake’s “Forever” have stood out to many hip hop fans showing that he is finally off the whole “808’s and Heartbreak” thing.
——————————-
#3) Drake
Drizzy cracks the top 5 due to the insane buzz from his mixtape So Far Gone and memorable features on songs with the likes of Lil Wayne, Eminem and Kanye West. This is especially stunning since the Canadian born MC was previously known for playing a wheelchair bound student on the teen television series Degrassi.
——————————-
#2) Lil Wayne
Weezy stays put at #2 after having a huge 2008 in which his album Tha Carter 3 sold 1 million copies in a week. Wayne has transformed from being a southern rapper to becoming a pop icon in all of music, influencing other young rappers including his protege, Drake.
——————————-
#1) Jay-Z
“HOV” is without question the gold standard in hip hop and has continued to prove it by recently selling out NYC’s Madison Square Garden again – this time for a benefit the victims of 9/11 and releasing his long awaited near platinum selling Blueprint 3. If that wasn’t enough, his wife is Beyonce. There, enough said. Congratulations Jay!
——————–
I still question why neither Eminem or Jadakiss made the list – especially since they had great years. In my opinion the list was still credible and should be considered the reason for some upcoming beefs among the rappers included… and EXcluded!
