Battling the Bulge? Blame Your Parents

obese kid22 Battling the Bulge? Blame Your ParentsOooh, guess what?! Here’s another thing to blame your parents for!

A recent Australian study found that obesity had more to do with the weight and eating habits of your same sex parent and aren’t quite as heavily influenced by genetics as previously thought.  So, if your mom is obese, and you’re female, you’re more likely to be obese, same goes for you gents and your dads.

Why? Behavior.

Subconsciously we learn our behaviors, including eating habits from our parents and more specifically from our same sex parents.  So, if you’re one for passing the buck, here’s more fuel for the parent blaming fire.

I for one don’t totally buy it.

I think that behavior is learned, yes. I believe that genetics have a huge part to do with our body types and I believe that we can change our behaviors.  I for one won’t be blaming my mother for the fact that I could do a few more crunches, it’s not her fault I’d rather go out than stay at home with the thigh master.

But thanks anyway Aussie’s, it’s always good to have an excuse in my back pocket when I need one.
